Reflecting on the Last Year

So much and yet so little has happened in the last year, as we were forced (by regulation or fear) to stay inside the same four walls, only leaving the house in search of toilet paper, household cleaners. We armed ourselves with a face mask, hand sanitizer (if you were lucky), and rubber gloves and a stood six feet apart to protect ourselves from the unseen enemy. As time wore on and toilet paper became more abundant Monday began the same as Wednesday–or is it Thursday? We sat inside the same four walls day in and day out, waiting for the pandemic to be over. But slowly, and without notice–we began to thrive. Yes, we all miss hugging our friends and families, but we found new ways to connect with friends who live just down the street, and discovered ways time to play games, or attend happy hour on line with friends from all over the world. I know that there is so much more change that needs to happen, but I for one am happy to discover that I can meet with friends and family who live across the country or across an ocean. And for now, I’m happy to maintain a distance of six feet, but I am happy that hugs are coming.
